SOUTHPORT District Scouts and Cubs are inviting former members to join them in a global celebration of 100 years of Scouting.
‘Scouting Sunrise’ will be a worldwide remembrance of the movement, exactly 100 years to the minute Robert Baden-Powell commenced the first ever camp.

Sick man is cleared

A RETIRED firefighter with arthritis was told by doctors to play golf – then taken to court for wrongly claiming benefits.
David Keating, a former Hurlston Hall member in Scarisbrick, was ordered to do community service and pay back more than £7,000 in benefits to the DSS.

Car Boot sale is cancelled

A CAR boot sale to raise money for a church in Scarisbrick has been cancelled. The sale was to take place this Saturday (May 12) for the Good Shepherd Mission.
Details for the rearranged sale are yet to be confirmed.

LOCAL garden centres have been witnessing record takings and a boost in visitors numbers thanks to recent heatwaves.
Vincents Garden Centre, Scarisbrick, and Dunscar Garden Centre, Tarleton, are among those which have been inundated with gardeners making the most of the sunshine by stocking up with plants, flowers and also patio furniture.

A real show of horse power at working day

A VISION of times past was seen in West Lancashire at the weekend when dozens of heavy horses appeared on farmland in place of tractors.
The event at Clieves Hills, Aughton, was a ‘spring working day’ where the Northern Counties Heavy Horse Working Society invited friends, farmers, and fellow horse fanciers, from up and down the country to come and take part.
