Vandals' cemetery rampage

VANDALS have wrought a trail of destruction in Duke Street Cemetery, leaving bereaved relatives appalled at their cruelty.
Around 20 headstones are believed to have been pushed over or moved by yobs, with even toys placed by the grave of a four-year-old girl left ruined.

‘Scouting Sunrise’ will be a worldwide remembrance of the movement, exactly 100 years to the minute Robert Baden-Powell commenced the first ever camp.

Bricklayer guilty of car attack

A BRICKLAYER who was caught red-handed tampering with a classic car has been sentenced to a curfew order.
Paul Michael Cole had smashed a window of the yellow Ford Capri parked on Bedford Road, Birkdale, and was arrested by police as he sat inside it, North Sefton Magistrates’ Court heard last Friday.

RSPCA centre gets a facelift

BUILDING work on new dog kennels is set to get underway at the Southport branch of the RSPCA.
The animal shelter in New Cut Lane, Birkdale, will be completely revamped.

Problems driving on route to be examined

A SPOKESWOMAN for Merseyside Ambulance Service confirmed this week that there has been a total of 27 road traffic accidents on the Coastal Road since January 1, 2006.
The scenic highway, which has previously been branded ‘the most dangerous road in the North West by Southport MP John Pugh, follows the old railway line which cuts through the sand dunes.
