Active Sefton Ambassador’s
Posted by Active Sefton on April 8, 2008 10:41 AM
Active Sefton have recently introduced a new addition to the Active Sefton Referral Programme known as ‘The Active Sefton Ambassador Scheme’, a volunteer programme which involves clients who have successfully completed and experienced the Referral Programme providing extra support to those currently on or about to begin the journey.
With all centres now participating including Dunes Leisure Centre, Litherland Sports Park, Netherton Activity Centre and Bootle Leisure Centre, we anticipate that this new initiative will provide Active Sefton patients with the additional social support, motivation and encouragement to enable them to reach their full potential and succeed on the programme. With Ambassadors being shining examples of what patients can achieve, it is thought that by sharing their experiences and demonstrating the benefits of physical activity, patients are more likely to feel that they have somebody who they can relate to, and as a result will want to commit to reap the same rewards. Also, as the Ambassadors are volunteering in their local centre during our Active Sefton sessions, it gives a real sense of community cohesion, with local residents getting involved to help improve the health and well being of their community.
Gina Lewis, Support Officer for the Active Sefton Referral Team said: ‘There has been a real difference to the Active Sefton sessions since the introduction of the Ambassadors. As they have experienced ill-health in the past and are showing vast improvements due to the benefits of physical activity, they are a real inspiration to those patients just beginning on the programme’
As the demand for the Referral Programme and the popularity of the group activity sessions continue to grow, we will be encouraging more volunteers to come forward to join us in the development of a healthier community.
If you require any more information regarding the Active Sefton Referral Programme or the Active Ambassador Scheme, please contact the Active Sefton Team on 0151 934 2352.
Early Birds
Posted by Active Sefton on April 8, 2008 10:39 AM
Early risers who use the gym at Litherland Sports Park are in for a treat from the end of March as the facility will open its doors on Mondays and Fridays at 7am.
The fantastic state of the art facility has become tremendously popular over the last year with hundreds of members signing up and from Monday 31st March there will be no need to wait until after work for your workout as Litherland will commence the ‘Early Bird’ sessions.
Senior Operations Manager, Mike Woodruff stated, "More and more people are keen to have a workout early in the morning, setting them up for the day and we at Litherland are always looking to meet customers demands"
Thanks to a vote amongst the users of the gym at Litherland, the most popular days of Monday and Friday have been chosen. And this may only be the beginning as Lynn Atkinson, Fitness Manager at Litherland explains, "We are confident that our Early Bird sessions will prove very popular and if this proves the case, we will look to add more sessions in the future"

Welcome to Southport Communities
Posted by liam on April 20, 2007 12:00 PM
Southport Communities is a new, community website run by and for local communities. We have built this website to give community groups in our area their own mini website and encourage them to share information with each other.
Southport Communities will be a large website containing community news and contact details for community groups within Southport and District. If you choose to join Southport Communities we will give you your own small website within the larger, Southport Communities umbrella. You will have control over what you write about or what you use this website for. For example, if you are a sports club you may wish to publish your latest results or team news on your website; such news will be visible on your website and also the Southport Communities website. Other people will be able to see what you have written, and add comments underneath your stories which you can approve or reject. You will also be able to see what other groups have published on the website.

Advice for users

Get The Most Out Of Southport Communities
This site is great for having your say on the news, and sharing your views on the world. But sometimes what you post online can cause problems.
So, here's our guide to getting the most out of being online while staying safe:
1. People aren't always who they say they are. So never give out more information than you would like strangers to have, and especially not your address, phone number, or other personal information.
2. If you don't know someone fully, don't arrange to meet up with them. But if you really must meet up, make sure it's in a public place, take someone along with you, and make sure someone else knows where you're going.
3. If you feel something isn't right, it probably isn't. Report any abusive posts or behaviour to us and we'll do all we can to help.
How To Report Abuse
If a user has made a comment somewhere on our site that you think we should know about, click on the 'Report it!' link next to it. Fill in the form, and it'll get passed on to our specially trained staff for attention.
Children
While we want to encourage young readers to have their say on this site, and upload information from their schools and colleges we feel that children can be more at risk than adults on the web.
It's for that reason we ask that if your children are using the Internet, you might want to think about the following ideas to help keep them out of harm's way:
1. Take an active interest in how your children use the web - this'll help stop 'secretive' internet use.
2. Think about installing some parental control software. It's not foolproof, but it can certainly help prevent children from seeing things they shouldn't.
Some programs can even limit the amount of time spent online, which is handy if they're surfing all the time.
3. Make sure they know the basic internet safety tips we gave you above - they're useful for everyone.
4. Rather than using a computer as a way of getting the kids out of your hair, think about putting it in the main family room.
You can keep an eye on things better this way, and if they want to play games or listen to music they can always plug a set of headphones into the computer.
