About us
Southport Writer's Circle meets at 8pm every Thursday at Birkdale library.
The Circle has been in existence for over thirty-five years and has a diverse membership ranging from published authors and poets to those who write purely for pleasure. At each meeting members are invited to read their original work and in turn they receive positive feedback and critique. The Circle also runs two major annual competitions, the open short story competition and the annual open poetry competition; both these events attract a large amount of entries from both the UK and abroad. The Circle also holds a number of social events throughout the year and regularly obtains the services of guest speakers.
If you write either for pleasure or profit and you would like to become a member contact the secretary, (details above), or please feel free to join us on any Thursday at Birkdale Library.

Southport Bach Choir's "Festival Baroque" - June 16th
Posted by Southport Bach Choir on May 2, 2007 3:46 PM
Our Summer concer this year is on June 16th at Holy Trinity Church, Hoghton Street, Southport.
It is an all Baroque programme, featuring works by Vivaldi, Charpentier and JS Bach. The usual, excellent, Southport Bach Orchestra will be led by Steven Wilkie. Steven is based at Manchester, teaches at the RNCM and leads a very busy life as a freelance musician. He is in regular demand to lead orchestras in Europe. We are very fortunate to be able to have musicians of his calibre. However, he loves coming to Southport and always looks forward to working with the Choir's conductor, David Williams.
Soloists will include Una Barry, who will be travelling up from London for this and we look forward in particular to Anthony Thompson's contributions on the trumpet. Anthony lives in Yorkshire and specialises in works that demonstate is extraodrinary skills on very high trumpet. He says, " I look forward to using the superb acoustics at Holy Trinity Church. I always enjoy playing there."
For tickets to this splendid concert, ring the Hon Sec. - 01704 229416
We anticipate a good demand, so book early!
