Formby Chess Club move to new club night

Posted by on June 15, 2009 10:39 AM

President and Club Champion Phil Fisher welcomes all members and prospective members to the Ravenmeols Community Centre on Tuesday September 1st at 1945 for a 2000 start.
Traditionally the evening consists of a handicap tournament during which the higher the team that you play for the less time you have on the clock.
It is normally run over about five rounds and Phil provides prizes for the winners of the tournament. Members need to note the new club night (Tuesdays).
Phil has been particularly active in the summer seaon with a brave performance in the South Lakes Congress Open section .
No doubt inspired by Formby's top player International Grandmaster Stewart Haslinger, who treated members of the club to a training session, the players are fired up ready for another successful season, after both the first and third teams winning their respective divisions in the Merseyside League.
So if you are already a member or may want to join, come along and join in the fun. Until September the club meet on Tuesday evenings at the Royal Hotel, Liverpool Road, Formby from about 1930.
