Soroptimist Winter News Bulletin

Throughout November, December and January we have had many fundraising and social activities. Our Coffee Morning on November 29th was a huge success and raised a great deal for the President's local charities. President Margaret had also given each of us previously a £5 note and asked us to exercise our talents and make it 'grow'. As you can imagine all sorts of ideas have flowed from a 'Festive Floral Fizz Day' to making cakes to sell to work colleagues. I am very pleased to report that over £1,440 has been raised so far with more money still to come in!
On December 8th we held our International Night which this year had a Barbadian theme to it because several of our members had been to the International Conference in Barbados. Many people dressed in traditional Caribbean costume and we enjoyed a meal of typical Caribbean fare. Monies raised on this evening, together with those raised on Friendship Night meant the grand total of over £500 was sent to the International President's 10th December Appeal.
We also held our Christmas Celebration at The Scarisbrick Hotel on December 16th. A delicious meal with wine was followed by a captivating performance by a group of magical fairies! The latter a group of beautiful fairies in their prime performed 'Nobody loves a fairy when they're forty' to the obvious delight and appreciation of the audience.
Our meeting in January began with a power point talk from Stefan Janowski from Southport Investment Strategy. As you can imagine some lively debate followed and Stefan was asked a range of probing questions from ones about parking charges to the development of the sea front. We are now looking forward to our PAC meeting, with meal, on February 2nd when Myra Woodcock, Regional Ambassador for Project SIerra is coming to speak to us.

Although its a long way away from the start of 2009-2010 season, and there is still many months to go we here in the crosby snooker are looking for the opportunity to invite new teams and clubs into our league come next season. we have a 1st division league which plays on a friday night and is of a good standard . for those not so gifted we also have a division 2 played on a monday night and this is ideal for players to progress to the higher grade of snooker by playing players of mixed abilities ie novices, moderate and season compaigners start from the age of 17 to those more mature of 70 and a few older. if you are thinking of playing snooker either as a hot shot or a beginner give us a try. a team should have 8 players of which 6 play in a league match. for further information contact

Epilepsy Affects on working
Posted by Epilepsys Affects on Romance on January 15, 2009 7:46 PM
i value comments and involvment but please not on simplisity such as correting the likes of not capitalising 'I's',
Us and Them
we the mighty few, the chosen ones, the elight of the majority the selected amongst others,i dont know about the rest of you but 'we' are limited as to what we can do by the officials? as well as our ailments it follows therefore that our wives/husbands are as limited as us (unless they have an extreamly well paid job).
This in turn restricts our social activities and not only our ailments but our finances make us outcasts amongst society. What 'they' dont realise is that were not stupid just slower than average normally because of our medication so, that (in there eyes) makes us unemployable but, what is normal. Normal is a constraint put upon society by the majority, it would follow therefore that if we can bring the majority to realise that we are normal, the concept of it would change and so would our life styles. There are many epilepsy groups that 'chat' about there ailments and thats good but we need to discuss cause and effect and how we can change us and our partners life styles for the better. Equally and as important 'we' need to make employers and politicians aware that we can be an asset not a constraint, (as recently portrayed on TV with the National Health advert discusing 'mental illness' and Florance Nightingdale). So, lets make an issue of this, if the NSPCA can do it why cant we stand for our own?
