Volunteering days at WWT Martin Mere

Posted by Martin Mere Wetlands on October 21, 2008 9:39 AM |

WWT Martin Mere are hosting a free volunteer gardening weekend on 1 and 2 November.

In conjunction with Community Service Volunteers 'Make a Difference Day', BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC Breathing Places campaign, Martin Mere is offering the Southport Community the opportunity to come and make a difference at the Centre by creating a wildlife garden.

Volunteer Co-ordinator, Jane Barker, said: "everyone is welcome to come along and get involved in clearing, lopping and pruning. We are going to make bird boxes, bat boxes, hedgehog and insect houses as well as building habitat piles and looking at our moth traps. The volunteers will help to create a wildlife garden at the Centre that they can be very proud of."

Places are limited so you will need to book in advance. The sessions are going to run from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm on each day and taking part also allows you free access to Martin Mere for the day.

To book your place, contact Jane Barker on 01704 891224 or email info.martinmere@wwt.org.uk.

WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations. Visit the web site http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/martinmere/ to find out what's on all year round at Martin Mere and the other eight WWT centres.
