On the 29th September SI Southport held a very successful Ball at CHET which had been transformed into places from Mumbai for the evening.Soroptimists and guests dressed in colourful Indian costumes and were later treated to a delicious Indian or English banquet.Purchases of trinkets, scarves, bags and saris could also be made at the Indian Bazaar. The banquet was followed by a dazzling display of traditional Indian and Bollywood style dance from a group of young Indian dancers. After that it was time for some audience participation in Indian 'Stick Dancing'! The evening concluded with a disco and a raffle with a distinctly eastern flavour. The event raised £2000 for CHET who are going to purchase outdoor equipment for use by the children who attend the centre.
October 1st saw us holding our annual 'Friendship Night'.On this evening we celebrate our links with other clubs around the world. An excellent meal was followed by link members updating us on news from these clubs and then symbolically lighting a candle in their honour.
October 1st was also the 30th anniversary of the instigation of our 'Club Room' and a birthday cake had been purchased to mark the event. So more candles were lit.....and, of course, then we had to eat it....
Another reason for celebration was the fact that we have won 'The Regional Rose Bowl Trophy' for recruitment of new members and retention of existing ones.
Moving on!
