LOCAL garden centres have been witnessing record takings and a boost in visitors numbers thanks to recent heatwaves.
Vincents Garden Centre, Scarisbrick, and Dunscar Garden Centre, Tarleton, are among those which have been inundated with gardeners making the most of the sunshine by stocking up with plants, flowers and also patio furniture.
Owner of Vincents Garden Centre, Clare Seddon told the Visiter: “It has been exceptional and the best start to the year. I have only had two days off since January 15!”
Clare has owned the business, which is situated on the A570, two miles out of Southport, for the past years since taking over from Brian Vincent.
She currently employ seven members of staff to work in the gardens and in the centre’s cafe.
She added: “Our turnover has substantially increased since the last quarter.”
Dunscar Garden Centre, which is on Southport New Road, Tarleton, has also noticed a dramatic rise in figures with takings up 56% on last year, setting a new record for April . It has also established a new record for their first quarter – 48% up on last year.
General manager Shaun Lewis said: “Spring is always the busiest time of year for us but this April has been phenomenal.
“This month has not only been our busiest April ever, it has been our busiest month ever – May is normally busier than April.
“As the gardening season gets further underway, we’re hoping our popularity with local gardeners will increase even further based on our shared passion for plants.”
