About Us: The Southport Skatepark Project is led by a panel of experienced skateboarders/inline skaters/BMXers who currently skate/ride in Southport, and who use the Kr8er skatepark, amongst others.
The panel consists of:
Skateboarders aged between 15 and 42 years of age with a combined experience of 61 years.
In-line skaters aged between 15 and 19 years of age with a combined experience of 10 years.
BMXers aged between 19 and 33 years with a combined experience of 25 years.
The SSP has been formed in order to ensure that any plans for skatepark provision in Southport utilise the full range of knowledge and experience on offer of the various user groups of the facilities; Users of all ages and disciplines.
The aims of the SSP are as follows:
*To lobby Sefton Council for a high quality concrete skatepark, designed by professionals with a background in skatepark design in conjunction with local skaters/riders, and constructed by engineers with proven experience of high quality skatepark construction.
View the online petition here:http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SOUTHPORTskatepark/
*To provide a one-stop resource of information on skateboarding/inline skating/BMX and, more importantly, the process of planning/designing/constructing skateparks of the highest quality.
*To work with Sefton Council, Leisure Services and Youth Services, Merseyside Police, and other partner organisations to solve issues surrounding skateboarding and skatepark users in Southport.
*To promote understanding between skateboarders/skatepark users and other social groups within the community.
*To promote "skateboarding BY skateboarders FOR skateboarders" whilst also catering for the needs of other skatepark users.
The SSP supports the actions of the Council with regard to the anti-skating bye-law in the 4 current designated areas and actively encourages skaters to comply in hope that said compliance with the bye-law will be seen positively.
The SSP Vision:
Our vision is of a professionally designed and constructed concrete skatepark, designed with the wants and needs of all user groups in mind and designed in keeping with the Council’s vision of Southport's "Classic Resort" status.
Southport Skatepark Project: The only truly representative group of skatepark users in Southport and your one-stop contact point for information on skateboarding/in-line skating/BMX, their culture, and issues concerning them.
