About Us: The North Meols Civic Society is one of over 1,000 civic societies throughout the country. Our area of interest is the historic parish of North Meols, covering the northern part of Southport - Churchtown, Crossens and Marshside.
We inspect local government plans for the area and fight those which we believe will be detrimental to the local environment;
fight for a cleaner, better North Meols;
involve ourselves in community projects and help to protect worthwhile buildings and open spaces;
try to solve traffic problems and prevent sleaze and dereliction in our communities;
bring together different groups in the area for mutual benefit;
raise money to help with our objectives;
welcome all age groups and hold regular talks on matters of interest;
have our own garden in Cambridge Road, Churchtown;
have published the Churchtown Village Trail which has been praised by local historians. We also run a series of Village Trail walks with organisations and schools
We are always seeking new ideas and ways of promoting the heritage and interests of the area. We are pleased to hear from anyone that wants to get involved - there is always plenty of work for those with a real interest.
From September to June we have monthly meetings. Our speakers deal with subjects of local and national interest. Past topics have included lacemaking, crime prevention, local history and the Southport Flower Show.
We have good relationships with local traders and many local groups. We often arrange joint meetings with members of other organisations for the mutual exchange of ideas and information.
We always welcome new members, whether local or from further afield!
