Farmer’s wife heads off to fashion world

Posted by Digital Editor on May 8, 2007 2:42 PM |

A FARMER’S wife has gone into the fashion world by taking over one of the region’s best known hat shops.

For almost 20 years, women wanting the finest headwear for a special occasion would visit only one place – Felicity Hat Hire in Churchtown.

The vast collection of hats attracts women from across the North West for weddings and race meetings like Aintree.

It is the oldest hat hire shop in the country and has now been taken over by Helen Woods.

Helen, 43, who lives on Brookdale Farm, Bickerstaffe, had been looking for a venture she could make her own and was delighted when her request to take over the franchise was accepted.

Helen said: “I’ve always been interested in fashion, but on the farm there isn’t really an opening for anything girly.

“I used to import Italian hair accessories and jewellery down in London and I was also a model for a few years so I wanted to do something in that area.”

Helen, who was brought up on Farmer Ted’s farm in Downholland, has been married to husband James for 10 years and has two children, Matthew and Edward.
