Trust in Yellow - Who are we?

Trust in Yellow was formed on the 26th April 2006 by a group of supporters’ of Southport Football Club disgruntled by a lack of supporter involvement and a growing rift between the board of directors and its’ supporters. During the six months which preceded the group had spent time carefully constructing working relationships with the supporters, board of directors, playing staff and media. Whilst wholly independent Trust in Yellow works closely with Southport Football Club to achieve their individual and respective objectives.

Trust in Yellow is a member of supporters direct a body funded by Sport England. There are over 140 supporters’ trusts under the supporters’ direct jurisdiction. The trust is an industrial and provident society, and is regulated by its’ own written constitution.

The trust gained its’ name having asked supporters to suggest a suitable title for their organization. Subsequently, TIY, asked match-goers and exiles via the internet, to vote on their preferred name from a shortlist, prior to the game against Canvey Island on February 6th 2006. Over 400 Participants voted, the leader - Trust in Yellow. The trust logo was also selected by supporters, following on from a competition within the local schools, the logo above was chosen designed by James Dorman of Ainsdale Hope. This represents Trust in Yellows’ desire to work closely with its’ supporters and the local community.

To date Trust in Yellow has acquired 342 members and formerly elected a committee of 12 in November 2006. Co-opting a 13th member shortly afterwards.

The trust also hopes to open its’ own office in the close season where members can purchase/renew memberships, book a place on a coach or acquire merchandise and air their views.

This is just the beginning for Trust in Yellow a long term, supporter led objective, aimed at increasing supporters’ involvement in their football club.
