What we do: The local group was formed in 1988 and exists, like its parent organisation, principally to promote walking for everyone and to safeguard the country's network of public paths.

In addition, the Association aims to increase opportunities for access to the countryside, to protect it from harmful developments and to educate the public about their rights and responsibilities when using the countryside.
The local Group organises walks fortnightly using a coach to reach our destination. These are open to members at first, but any spare seats may be booked by non-members from the Monday before the walk takes place. Non-members are welcome to join us for two walks before deciding whether or not to join. The areas that we walk in are from Cumbria down to Shropshire and as far east as the Yorkshire Dales, winter walks being closer to home. There is also a wide range of social activities, which includes dining out, days at the races, evenings at the theatre etc.

This summer (2007) the Group will be leading five walks on Tuesday evenings that will cover the whole of the Sefton Coastal Path, going from station to station and from north to south. The walks will start at 7.00pm and will take place on: April 17th; May 1st and 15th; June 5th and 19th. Further details of these walks, which are primarily for non-members, will be found in libraries and other public buildings, in the press and, later, on this web-site.
