About Us: Birkdale Civic Society was formed 25 years ago, and has been a powerful lobbying force on many issues affecting the Birkdale Village Conservation Area and subsequently all parts of Birkdale. It's objectives are threefold (1) to examine and comment, where necessary, on all planning applications affecting Birkdale (2) to enhance the visual aspect of Birkdale (3) to encourage the community to subscribe to the improvement of the area.

Over the years it has led in many improvement projects ranging from persuading the Council to provide hanging baskets; tree planting; flower planters and the provision of seat benches. It has also entered into partnership with the council in the award-winning Queen's Jubilee Nature Trail and recently the Energy Garden at the Southport Eco Centre; the Velvet Trail on Birkdale beach; the Wooden Walkway across the green beach and improvements at the Round Hill site, Hillside. The Society has organised many clean-up sessions in all parts of Birkdale.
It's membership is 60 peoples of all ages and meets every 6 weeks or so at the home of it's Chairman Ralph Gregson M.B.E..
To celebrate it's 25 years, it will be organising a dinner in the Autumn and during the period 21st September to 14th October 2007 it will be holding an exhibition in the Botanic Gradens Museum, Churchtown. It recently produced a 30mm DVD on Birkdale Past & Present and is has been an outstanding seller, priced at £8.
All details of activities are available from Ralph Tel:- 01704 566254 or

What is Fibromyalgia (FMS)
Posted by Southport Fibromyalgia Support Group on April 24, 2007 11:07 PM
What is fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a common and disabling disorder affecting 2-4% of the population, women more often than men. Despite the condition's frequency, the diagnosis is often missed. Patients with fibromyalgia usually ache all over, sleep poorly, are stiff on waking, and are tired all day. They are prone to headaches, memory and concentration problems, dizziness, numbness and tingling, itching, fluid retention, crampy abdominal or pelvic pain and diarrhea, and several other symptoms.
There are no diagnostic lab or x-ray abnormalities, but a physician can confirm the diagnosis by finding tender points in characteristic locations. Fibromyalgia often runs in families, suggesting an inherited predisposition. It may lie dormant until triggered by an infection, injury, stress, or sleep disturbance. It is closely related to the chronic fatigue and irritable bowel syndromes and to migraines. Some have suggested that these are all just different facets of the same underlying disorder.

Posted by Trust in Yellow on April 23, 2007 2:17 AM

Trust in Yellow was formed on the 26th April 2006 by a group of supporters’ of Southport Football Club disgruntled by a lack of supporter involvement and a growing rift between the board of directors and its’ supporters. During the six months which preceded the group had spent time carefully constructing working relationships with the supporters, board of directors, playing staff and media. Whilst wholly independent Trust in Yellow works closely with Southport Football Club to achieve their individual and respective objectives.
Trust in Yellow is a member of supporters direct a body funded by Sport England. There are over 140 supporters’ trusts under the supporters’ direct jurisdiction. The trust is an industrial and provident society, and is regulated by its’ own written constitution.

Welcome to Southport Communities
Posted by liam on April 20, 2007 12:00 PM
Southport Communities is a new, community website run by and for local communities. We have built this website to give community groups in our area their own mini website and encourage them to share information with each other.
Southport Communities will be a large website containing community news and contact details for community groups within Southport and District. If you choose to join Southport Communities we will give you your own small website within the larger, Southport Communities umbrella. You will have control over what you write about or what you use this website for. For example, if you are a sports club you may wish to publish your latest results or team news on your website; such news will be visible on your website and also the Southport Communities website. Other people will be able to see what you have written, and add comments underneath your stories which you can approve or reject. You will also be able to see what other groups have published on the website.
